Rules of use

In the past, conventional sealed units would be too deep (or thick) for fitting into period timber windows (sashes). However glazing takes up a considerable area of interest when improving window insulation. Slim double glazed sealed units specially made for period windows are now available and can improve insulation dramatically without disturbing character. These units comprise 'warm edge' technology and use xenon and krypton gas instead of argon to offer slower rates of temperature transference from the outer to the low emissivity inner glass pane. However these units may not bring a window fully up to PartL and will need to be signed off by your local building control. FENSA (one of the industries self-regulatory bodies for compliance) will not certify your sash windows upon being double glazed with slim units that provide a 1.6 U value unless the overall window (including frame) meets a 1.6 U value as per 2010 Part L Building Regs - i.e. not just the sealed unit.

Planning Permissions undertaken by us
